North Carolina State Income
What is the difference between individual income tax d-400v and nc-40 form?
I was working as a freelance designer and need to pay the quarterly estimated tax payment. On the federal side it seems pretty straight forward, but when looking at the state one there are 2 forms that look very similar.

Hi moni, here are the differences between these forms;
NC-40 (Individual Estimated Income tax payment form): This form is used to make quarterly estimated tax payments during the year, and applies to taxpayers who expect to owe taxes when filing and need to pay installments to avoid penalties.
D-400V (Individual income tax payment voucher): This form is used to submit a payment when filing your individual income tax return (form D-400). It accompanies a payment for taxes owed when filing your annual state income tax return.
Hope this helps! -
@BradyP Oh ok. so it is both documents. Not either or correct? Should I fill it out in any particular order?

@moni Yes, it is both documents. Your NC-40 will be filled out first and the D-400V will generate if tax is owed.
