4013b rollover to traditional IRA

In 2025, after switching jobs I rolled over my 403b at my previous job to a new Traditional IRA at Charles Schwab. Will I need to wait for tax forms (1099-R or other) and will they be coming from the bank that held my 403b or from Charles Schwab. I did not take any distributions.

    Hi Shannon40,

It is very possible that you may not get a 1099-R if it was a qualified rollover. Contact the bank that held the 403b and find out if they are sending a 1099-R.

Direct rollovers from a 403b to an IRA will generate a 1099-R with a distribution code "G". The 1099-R will come from the company that serviced the 403b account. Since the rollover is not taxable, the form is more for your records—you do not need to report it on your tax return.

You should report the 1099R on your tax return. The 1099-R will come from your 403b plan, with total distribution in box 1, taxable amount should be 0 in box 2a, and code G in box 7. Although the rollover is not taxable income, you should report the Form 1099-R as exactly on your tax return, and the total distribution, and zero taxable amount, will flow to Form 1040, lines 5a and 5b. There is a rollover box that is to be checked on that line, and so it is expected for you to report the rollover Form 1099-R.
