Form 8606 - Line 22 Roth IRA Distribution Undo
Hello All,
First time filling out Form 8606, and I somehow ended up with a value on line 22 of Part 3. I have been contributing directly to a Roth IRA for years, but for Tax Year 2025, I had to contribute via the "backdoor". Since this is my first time doing this, my understanding is that I should not have a numerical value on that line because I did not take a distribution. However, I am unable to find the appropriate location with the FreeTaxUSA software to undo this selection, since I did not take a Roth IRA distribution. Can anyone explain how to undo this?

Figured this out! I must have previously entered the wrong code of Box 7, which then triggered the Roth IRA basis question. When I corrected that (to a #2), that option of reverting the roth basis vanished (but the roth basis number kept showing up on form 8606). Only by re-entering the wrong code was I then able to change the basis amount to 0, then I could re-edit my 1099 and the 0 now showed on my 8606.
TLDR: Can't do simple data entry, turns out purposely performing a mistake allowed me to undo the mistake.

Hello CrashTaxDummy,
I'm glad you were able to figure it out. In the future, if you cannot find a certain place for data entry, I'd recommend contacting customer support. They should be able to help you figure out exactly where the error may be and how to correct it.0
