Post filing issues

  1. I was not informed that I did not have a PIN last year, even tho I wrote it on my filing envelope. I spent many hours trying to contact rts.gov only to find out that I did not have a PIN last year.
  2. I helped a friend file her taxes and only at the end did they ask for her last years AGI, which she could not find. Instead of e-filing, the only alternative was to print a hard copy and mail it. Very cumbersome.

It would be nice AT THE BEGINNING of filing to provide a checklist of things that may be needed prior to the finalization of the taxes.

    Hello LlHilmar,

Thank you for this suggestion, I will share it with our development team.

The Prior Year AGI and the 5-digit Self-Select PIN number serve as a way for the IRS to verify your identification and an electronic signature on your tax return. The IRS will only use these to verify your identification when you file the return electronically, they are not needed if you mail a return.

The Prior Year AGI can be located on the 2024 Federal 1040 from line 11.
