Is CA SDI in 2 separate places on the W-2? Box 14 and 19 have different amounts and TFUSA needs info
Hi there, I'm in California and I have a question about SDI on my W-2.
I'm on the page that says "We need a little more info from your ______ W-2" and then "Do you have any State Disability Insurance (SDI) or Voluntary Plan Disability Insurance (VPDI) shown in Box 14 or Box 19 of this W-2?"
The requests following are:
- If any SDI was withheld from your wages and is shown in Box 14 of this W-2, enter the amount.
- If any SDI was withheld from your wages and is shown in Box 19 of this W-2, enter the amount.
- If any VPDI was withheld from your wages and is shown in Box 14 of this W-2, enter the amount.
On my W-2, Box 14 has "SECT125" with an amount. Box 19 has an amount, with Box 20 saying CA SDI. This is the first year I've had SDI (back in November 2025 only) and I'm not sure how to answer these.
Do I enter the Box 14 amount in the 1st line? And then the Box 19 amount on the 2nd line? I'm assuming I don't have any VPDI.

SECT125 is for contributions a "cafeteria plan." It doesn't get entered anywhere. It's just for information. Just enter the SDI information. It only makes a difference if you're itemizing your deductions. It will be added to your state and local taxes on Schedule A of your Federal return.
If you're taking the standard deduction, it won't have any effect on your Federal or state returns.
