Amended return now saying my refund is $0

I recently submitted my tax return and was reviewing it on Free Tax due to a question my partner had about my form. When looking, I noticed that I had selected the option YES for unemployment compensation. I did not receive unemployment compensation in 2025, so I amended my return. At the end, when asked to put in the amount of the federal and state return I'd received, I assumed that meant that I was supposed to put in the amount that was in my original file (I have not yet received my refund amounts). I put down $307 for federal and $4356 for state. When I clicked submit, I now have $0 refund for state and $0 refund for federal. Does this mean I'm not receiving any refunds? Please help!

I think that just means there is $0 CHANGE from what you were going to get before, not that you're getting nothing. Either way it's probably better to ammend.

    Hello cgr16,

Toyotadriver is correct. If you enter in your original refund amounts at the beginning of your amendment and the changes you made do not impact your overall refund amount, then the software will show a $0 indicating that you shouldn't get more of a refund or pay any of it back.

I would recommend that you wait until you receive your refunds before amending though. Amendments can take up to 16 weeks to process and in the meantime, the IRS may have caught the error on their own and made adjustments before they issue you the refund. If you get your refund back and it is unchanged and you haven't heard from the IRS, then you know it is okay to go ahead and amend.
