Can I amend my 2023 federal return only - and not amend my state return?

Also, do I need to wait for my amended return to be processed before I file for 2024?

    Hi Form 8606,

    Our software will start an amendment for each original return on an account. The cost is the same, regardless of which amendments you chose to file. What you need to do is select the state amendment to be Mailed and then not mail it.

    No, you do not need to wait for the amendment to complete your 2024 return. You can file 2024 now.
