Accessing last year's tax documents
I used the free to file program/website to file my taxes in January or February. Everything went fine and I received the refund. However, now when I log in it tells me its closed for the season and to come back in January. I need to access my tax documents for an application. I can't submit the application without the tax documents. How can I gain access to my tax documents? I tried to login into the main Free Tax USA website, but nothing is there since I used the free to file one.

Hi MamaOf3,
I am sorry that this is giving you so much trouble. The FreeFile site is closed for the 2024 tax year, but you should be able to log into your account using our normal commercial website. Please go to www.freetaxusa.com and log into your account using the same login credentials you used for your FreeFile account-- make sure you enter the same username that you used for FreeFile.
When logging in, you should see a screen letting you know that you are logging in with a FreeFile account, and it should give you the option to switch to FreeTaxUSA full-service. If you do that, it should allow you to log into your account that way.
Don't worry--doing this will not result in any retroactive charges. Instead, it will just make it so that any returns you file in the future on this account will be handled using our normal pricing, which you can see here: https://www.freetaxusa.com/pricing
Another option would be to get a federal transcript from the IRS here:

I mentioned in the original post that I CANNOT access my tax documents on the website you're saying to go to. The two websites are different, which is why you need different logins. Obviously, they will not transfer information between them. The transcripts from the IRS will not work. I need the documents, not transcripts. The IRS does not allow people to see the documents and only give transcripts now, which is extremely frustrating! I need them, but no one will allow me access to my own documents! I can assure you, after this headache I will not be using Free Tax USA anymore. I have used your services for more than a decade. I will be switching!

Hi MamaOf3,
I'm truly sorry to hear about your frustration, especially after being a loyal customer for 10 years. We understand how upsetting this situation must be. While FreeFile accounts are separate from our full-service site (www.freetaxusa.com), it is possible to move your account over. Since you mentioned that nothing appeared when you tried logging into the main site, the best next step would be to contact our customer support team directly. They have access to your account details and can help you retrieve your return or guide you through the transition. You can reach them by logging into your account at www.freetaxusa.com and using the support feature, or by emailing them at support@freetaxusa.com. They’ll be happy to assist and work toward a resolution.0
