I know it is too early to file, but when will we be able to 'see' the actual forms, even if they will be changed by the IRS later. I just want to see how my entries look on the forms.

    Hello JamesB,

Great question! The form review feature typically begins rolling out in mid-January. We anticipate this feature will be available after January 9th. Once the forms are ready for viewing, you'll see a "View" button appear on your Federal Tax Summary screen. You can click that button to see how your entries look on the actual tax forms.

Keep in mind that some forms may still be updated by the IRS after they initially become available, but you'll be able to review them as soon as they're ready in the system.

When does form 2210 become available?

    Hello again,

We expect it should be available later this month. We do not have any firm dates at the moment, but the option for it should appear under the Misc tab if you owe more than $1,000 to the IRS.

Just so you are aware, you are not required to include form 2210 with your tax return. If you submit it without form 2210, then the IRS will later calculate the penalty for you and send you a notice.

Thank you. I wish to use it for Schedule AI. Does FreeTaxUSA have that functionality?

    Hello again,

As Schedule AI is part of the 2210 Form, we do support it. When Form 2210 becomes available in our software, we will ask a series of questions which will fill out the form for you.

You should be able to view Form 2210 before you submit it. If you have any questions on your entries or the calculations, I would recommend that you contact Customer Support. They will be able to look at your personal account and see what is going on.

I was told by support to use different software if I need schedule AI..specifically the scenario where a refund is due from a Q4 estimated payment. However the safe harbor rules apply per quarter so even if you have paid 90% of last years tax you may still owe an underpayment penalty.

Tax slayer detects this correctly but doesn't allow schedule AI to be modified, they only use it in calculating underpayment assuming equal income. Freetaxusa doesn't properly detect when underpayment is needed and the menu it options don't appear. Is there a way to force it?

I want to correct myself, it seems now FTU was able to detect an underpayment for both state and federal as well as create annualized income to eliminate fees for both state (MI) and federal whereas TaxSlayer couldn't!

Thank you for the information. I am planning on using schedule AI as we had lumpy income through the year with a large amount in the 4th quarter for a variety of reasons. I made quarterly estimated taxes payments, but not equal (the last much more than the other three). I’m hoping I can do this with FTU.

    Hello Bmac:

Yes, you can enter your estimated tax payments into our software. To enter such payments, and after logging back into your account, select the Misc tab. In the drop-down, select the option for 2025 Estimated Tax Payments.

The next screen should be “Did you make any estimated payments in 2025?” Select Yes, and then Save and Continue. The next screen is where you can enter your estimated tax payments. We identify for you the dates that apply to each quarter, i.e. first quarter, second quarter, etc. so you can easily determine which yearly quarter applies to your estimated tax payment.

Just an FYI about using our software, you won’t be able to access the Misc tab (it may be “greyed” out) until you have gone through the previous tabs, such as Personal, Income, and Deductions/Credits. In other words, you have to go in order but once you pass through Deductions/Credits, you will be able to select the Misc tab and proceed to enter your 2025 estimated tax payments.

In follow up to my prior post about form 2210 and schedule AI, I was able to successfully complete the forms and eliminate any penalties.
