Having trouble getting 8962 to generate correctly
My situation:
I was insured under my family's policy from January until July 2025. They buy health insurance through the Marketplace and received advance tax credits. August through December 2025 I was insured under my employers' plan.
I am not being claimed as a dependent on their 2025 return.
In the FreeTax software I have clicked Yes for Did you have health insurance from the Marketplace (1095-A)?
Yes for Do you need to allocate your premiums on this Form 1095-A between two different tax returns?
No for Does this Form 1095-A show the same amounts in columns A, B, and C for each month from January to December (Lines 21 – 32)? because the amounts in column A B and C changed when my parents dropped me from their insurance.
Yes for Did you receive any advanced payments of the Premium Tax Credit (APTC) for the policy?
I have then used the data from the 1095-A my parents received giving the shared policy SSN, the months that I shared the plan, and
0 for Percent of the premium that you paid
0 for Percent of the Second Lowest Cost Silver Plan
0 for Percent of any advance payment of the Premium Tax Credit that applies to you
When I enter all of the numbers from the 1095-A for all of the months the 8962 looks correct except that it shows no premiums for the months I shared with my family and then gives all of the premiums to me for the months I was actually no longer on their plan. This is wrong and gives me a huge (incorrect) refund.
When I enter all of the numbers from the 1095-A into the months I shared the plan and put 0 for the months I had other coverage, the generated 8962 is completely blank apart from a 0 entered for lines 1, 24 and 30.
At the very end of the software then gives me an error message saying: The IRS won't allow returns to be e-filed that have no premiums, SLCSP amounts, or advance payment amounts on Form 1095-A after any shared allocations.
I have been trying to get this to work for hours. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can use FreeTax and correctly inform the IRS that my parents are allocated 100% of everything on the 1095-A?

Hi MNSDNC02,
Generally, when you allocate a premium, part of that allocation applies to you, even when you did not pay for the premium. So, you would need to allocate more than 0%.0
