State tax owed

I am filing taxes and owe for both federal and state, it gave me an option to pay federal on irs website however the state is making me pay up front. Can you please help me find a solution or a way to include it in the irs payment plan

    Hi Evasofia,

    I am afraid the federal government and the state government are separate entities, so there isn't a way to include the amount owed to your state in the IRS payment plan. However, you can generally go through your state to set up a separate payment plan with them, if needed.

    On the State Tax Payment screen in the software, simply indicate that you plan to mail in a payment or pay with credit card after filing. That way no payment information will be submitted with your state return.

    On the final screen after submitting your return, you'll be given instructions for paying the amount owed to your state by check or credit card. You can ignore those instructions and go to your state's Department of Revenue website instead to request a payment plan.

    Hi,

    I entered my payment information for Georgia taxes to be auto-deducted on the 15th of April, 2026 and submitted as e-filed.

    Can this be modified after e-filing on freetaxusa.com so I can pay in installment?

    Also, what process steps I follow on freetaxusa.com. I have printed and filled the GA-9465 form "Installment Agreement Request" which I can mail but don't want automatic deduction to also trigger.

    Hello Rehan:

    Unfortunately, once your tax returns have been submitted and accepted for processing, there is no way to thereafter change your method of payment. However, you might check with the GA Taxpayer Services at https://dor.georgia.gov/taxes/how-do-i-contact-taxpayer-services , phone number (877) 423-6711 or 877-GADOR11 and see what they recommend about changing your method of payment.

    If your GA tax return is rejected, you should be able to log back into your account and change your method of payment, along with fixing the reason for the rejection.
