What could have gone wrong?

I filed my federal and state taxes. I received an email saying both of my returns were accepted, but then I received a letter in the mail saying that my state taxes could not be processed due to a discrepancy in my name. I don’t see how when I used the same name for both returns. Could someone help?

    Suggestion.

    Print out a copy or open your PDF copy of this years State 1040 and do the same for last years and compare them.

    See if there is any differences.

    You may want to go back one additional year.

    You may have to call your States Department of Revenue to find out where the problem lies.

    I'm sorry to hear that. The IRS and your state are separate entities, so there may be something that triggered on your state side while your federal return was fine.

    On the notice, it should say how to proceed. Or you should be able to contact your state's Department of Revenue (or equivalent).
