Corrected vs Ammended

I read that it is possible to submit a "corrected" tax return prior to April 15th. Is this true, and is it possible through Freetaxusa?

    Hello tserrof22,

It sounds like what you are describing is generally called a "superseding return."

According to the IRS, "If you file an amended or corrected return before the due date for the original return, the amended return will replace or supersede the original return."

    https://www.irs.gov/faqs/irs-procedures/amended-returns-form-1040x/amended-returns-form-1040x

While the corrected form 1040 is not supported in our software at this time, the amended 1040X is. In FreeTaxUSA, you would do this through the standard amended return process filing a 1040X. Once your original return has been accepted, you can click on the Account option at the top of your screen and select "File an amended tax return." As long as you file it before April 15th, the IRS will treat it as superseding your original return.

I don't mean an Ammended return. I mean a Corrected return prior to the filing deadline
