Yes, as long as your home is in an eligible census tract, you can claim the Alternative
Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit. This credit allows you to claim 30% of the cost, up to a maximum credit of $1,000 per charging port.

To learn more about the credit and find out if your home is in an eligible census tract, feel free to visit this IRS page: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p6027.pdf

    Thanks Kinsley.

Btw, In FreeTaxUSA site, under which section/path I can apply this during 2024 tax return filing process?

    You're welcome!

You can go to Deductions/Credits > Other Deductions/Credits > Vehicle Charging Station to claim that credit.

Anyone know how to get the software to work for the Washington, DC EV Charging Station credit? I can't get it to work.

    Hello TaxGuy12,

Do you possibly mean the DC Alternative Fuel Vehicle Conversion and Infrastructure Credit? If so, it is claimed on your state return and not your federal return. You should be able to enter in your information by going to State -> Alternative Fuel Credits.

If you are still having trouble, I would recommend that you contact customer support so they can look at your account and see what is going on.

Yes, I am looking at this on my state return but it asks me for my census Geotrack ID and says I am not eligible. My understanding is that is for the federal credit, but not the DC specific credit.

    Hello again,

That does sound like the federal credit and not the DC credit. You may be on the wrong page. Just to be on the safe side, to find the DC Alternative Fuel Vehicle Conversion and Infrastructure Credit you need to:

    1. Click on the State tab
    2. Select Alternative Fuel Credits
    3. Say Yes
    4. Fill out the following information.

Please contact support if you are still having trouble as they can take a look at your account.
