How can I add notes to be transmitted to IRS & State in the return?
Sold an older second home (not a primary residence) with basis adjustments and additional repair costs. I would like the IRS to see all the supporting information. How can I include detailed explanations for the IRS and the state in the e-file transmission? This would help avoid a follow-up letter asking how the adjusted basis was calculated. In the software all I see Adjusted Basis Box, and not able to add notes.

There isn't a place to include notes or explanations in an e-filed return with our software. The only way to include a written explanation with your filing is if you opt for mailing the return, including the note by mail to the IRS (and your state).
If you choose to e-file the returns, enter the correct adjusted basis in the software and keep your records (receipts, closing documents, etc.) on hand if the IRS and state request additional information.0
