Form 1116 for Multiple Countries

Is there any way to use columns B and C for other countries on Form 1116? Currently freetaxusa is lumping income from 3 countries into column A.

If not, can I manually complete Form 1116 and upload it with my freetaxusa e-filing? Or, could I paper file the whole thing? I don't want to lose all my inputs so far, and this is my last outstanding item! Thanks

Hello taxtime2102! I'm sorry for the frustration with this situation, especially when you're so close to finishing your return.

Unfortunately, our software does not currently support entering income from multiple countries in separate columns on Form 1116. The software combines all foreign income into column A. You are not able to manually complete Form 1116 and attach it to an e-filed return, as the IRS does not accept separately attached forms with e-filed returns.

If having each country listed in its own column is important for your situation, paper filing would be the way to go. You can print your return from FreeTaxUSA and mail it, which would allow you to attach a manually completed Form 1116 with the countries separated across columns A, B, and C. The IRS instructions for Form 1116 are available at https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i1116 if you need guidance on completing the form manually.
