Hi,

If I use the summary option instead of entering my crypto transactions manually and upload the required forms, do I also need to mail those forms separately?

thanks

Hello choppy3! If you have reported a summary of sales, you will have the option to attach a copy of you crypto Form 8949 PDF to your return during the filing process. The attachment is sent to the IRS along with your e-filed return. If you have uploaded the forms, you do not need to mail in the forms separately.

Does this have to be a pdf? Can it be any other type of document (.csv, .odf, etc?)

If it does need to be a .pdf, does it need to be the 8949 forms or can it be formatted with the correct columns like the 8949 form?

    Thanks

    Hello MattVa,

It needs to be a pdf or an image under 16 mb in size. It does not need to be a 8949 form, but it needs to have the following:

    -Description
    -Date acquired
    -Date sold
    -Proceeds
    -Cost basis
    -Adjustment code
    -Adjustment amount
    -Gain or loss
    -Basis reported

If you have your form 1099-B or 1099-DA, you can upload that.
