I have an IP number from the IRS that is 6 characters long but the Free Tax USA only will accept 5 figures. My return has been rejected because of incorrect numbers.

I made up a five figure IP number, but my return was still rejected.

What do I do??

Open the Return and do the following

First if you did not do this.

Click on Personal - click on Personal Information Summary - scroll down to where it says

    Identity Protection PIN

Did you have an Identity Protection PIN?

    Yes No

Pick Yes if you do have a IRS Pin.

    Now do the following

Click on the Misc TAB then Click Identity Protection PIN in the drop down menu.

    You will see this

Did you get an Identity Protection PIN?

If you have a IRS Pin click on"Yes" then enter the IP Pin in the box.

    Click on Save and Continue.

    Hope this helps.

If they changed it maybe the FTU Agents will correct me.

IP PIN = 6 digits, provided by the IRS, new number assigned every year.

Self-select PIN = 5 digits, created by you. Required to e-file. Not related to identity theft or the IP PIN.
