W-7 Line 6c: What to enter for spouse who changed status from B1/B2 to F-2 (no F-2 visa stamp)
Filing MFJ with W-7 for my wife's ITIN (reason "e" - spouse of resident alien). Need help with line 6c.
My wife entered the US June 2025 on a B1/B2 visa. She changed status to F-2 via I-539, approved Oct 2025, effective Dec 1 2025. She has an I-797 approval notice with new I-94 showing F-2, valid 12/01/2025 to D/S.
Her passport only has the B1/B2 visa stamp — no F-2 stamp since she hasn't left the US.
For line 6c (Type of U.S. visa, number, and expiration date): Do I enter the B1/B2 visa info from her passport, or her current F-2 classification with the I-94 number from the I-797?
I'm attaching her passport, I-797, I-94, and I-20 with the W-7.

Hello moin,
As we only deal with individual income tax returns, you may want to discuss this with a tax preparer who has experience filling out W-7s. However, I did look at the instructions for line 6c. It says: "
Enter only U.S. nonimmigrant visa information. Include the USCIS classification, number of the U.S. visa, and the expiration date in month/day/year format. For example, if you have an F-1/F-2 visa with the number 123456, enter, in the entry space, F-1/F-2 and 123456, followed by the visa’s expiration date in MM/DD/YYYY format. Individuals in possession of an I-20/I-94 document(s) should attach a copy to their Form W-7"
Since you are including paper work backing her newest F-2 status and that is her current visa status, I would use that. But again, it may be best to consult with someone is more familiar with the W-7 form.
