Rental property conversion to personal use

I'm filling out Rental Income (Schedule E) as I had a rental property for the first 2 months of 2025. For those 2 months, I collected 0 income based upon a mediation agreement but incurred expenses. Once the property became vacant, it became my primary residence. When I filled out the rental income portion and answered "yes" to personal use of the rental property for the remaining year, I get an error.

I think the error is caused by either 1) the income is 0 or 2) the length of personal use. At this point, I'm blocked from filing so I'm not if there is an alternative way to filling this out.

    Hello Freetax8

Based on your post, it appears you converted your rental property to personal use and thereafter it became your personal residence. In that situation, your personal use days should be 0.

Personal use days are only reported in situations where the property continues to be a rental property, and the owner decides to use the property for other non-rental business reasons, i.e. family use of the rental property, vacation, etc. In those situations, personal use days need to be reported because personal use days will affect the allowable rental expenses.

Because your personal use took place after you converted your rental property, go back to the screen “Tell us about your personal use [Name of Rental Property]” and remove the personal use day amount you entered. Doing so should remove the error message you are seeing.
