My return was rejected. What now?
I don’t want have to face any penalties for filing late because it says it was rejected. I mean I still filed it on time. What can I do? I'm worried about the deadline.

Hi Javman,
That is a great question and is asked all the time. If your return is rejected after the form 4868 extension deadline, then the IRS allows for a 5-day Transmission Perfection Period to correct an IRS rejection. The IRS states that this is not an extension of time to file, just a time to correct the rejection error.
We recommend you sign into your account within 24 hours to check the e-file status. If you are rejected correct the error and resubmit as soon as possible.
This perfection period is also true if you file by the regular April filing deadline and are rejected.
