Entering W2, 1st screen asks if there is anything in box 14, next screen asks if there a SDI entry?

Going through the W2 entry screens, on the first one is asks for anything in box 14. I have a RI return with TDI listed so I enter it there. Next screen asks if there are any SDI entries in box 14. TDI=SDI, so do I enter it again? or pick one screen to enter it in?

Its a little confusing as the 1st screen doesn't say box 14 except SDI or anything like that. TY

    Hi mytaxes2020,

Thanks for writing in with your question.

Employers use W-2, Box 14 for any other information the employer wants to give to the employee. Examples include letting employees know about state disability insurance taxes withheld, union dues, uniform payments, health insurance premiums deducted, nontaxable income, pension plan contribution information, and educational assistance payments.

Your employer can use any description they want to. According to the RI Dept. of Labor, TDI is Temporary Disability Insurance, which is used by NY, HI, NJ and RI. Other states use the acronym SDI for State Disability Insurance. It means the same thing.

In our software you'll enter the information first in Box 14 just like it shows on your W-2, and then a follow-up screen asks for the same information again where you'll enter the amount of TDI/SDI a second time from Box 14.
