Home energy tax credit

I currently own a home in NJ and lived there most of the year in 2024 (so its my primary residence for most part of the year 2024). I recently (mid November) bought another home (existing home) in NJ and will be moving there and it will be my primary residence for next few years. I'm thinking to replace attic insulation in that newly bought home in December. Can I claim energy tax credit for that as I only will be living there partial year (around 1 month Dec/2024) in that home for this year 2024 ?

    Hi gvenki02!

    That's a great question! If you at least lived in this second home as a resident for part of the year, you would be able to claim this credit. However, it depends on what specific types of improvements you made. If the installation you made in December doesn't fit the second home eligibility requirements, you would not be able to claim this credit on your tax return.
