Married, File Separate or Jointly?

My wife and I have very different incomes, she is at approximately at 25K and Im close to 96K. Would we get better refund to file separately?

    Hello,

    I doubt you will get a better refund if filing separately. First, filing separately has a lower standard deduction and you miss out on certain deductions. Also, the tax brackets are much lower for higher tax rates when filing Separately. I suggest you enter married filing jointly and find out what your tax due is (or refund) and then try separately.
