I always did my sons taxes for him

I have always done my sons taxes for him and unfortunately he passed away this past May. He has a son which is my grandson which i'm now guardian of.. I always filed my son head of household but now that hes gone and my grandson did not live with him for at least 6 months how do I file for my son this year

    Hi,

    Sorry for your loss. You could file his return as Single without your grandson or as Head of House with your grandson as his dependent. The 6 month rule does not really apply in situations like this. If there is a refund, make sure you fill out the "Deceased Taxpayer Information - Form 1310" on the Misc menu.
