Traveling Costs

I officiate at Track & Field meets across the state. I use the mileage method for determining travel costs. Do I count only the travel to the venue site or can I count both to and from the site? There is no "in between" stops, strictly to and from.

    That is a great question!

    I am assuming that you are self-employed. If so, and the trips are considered "business" miles, you'd be able to deduct the miles both to and from the sites.

    I would make sure that those trips are not considered "commuting" miles. Commuting miles are not deductible. Publication 463 is particularly handy in determining which trips would be commuting and which would be business.
