Claim child - no income

It's my year from a divorce agreement to claim my child. I had only Army pay, which I don't need to claim as income, but have no other income to claim.

Can I file a tax return and claim my child?

    Hello,

The Child Tax Credit is a non-refundable credit and can reduce your taxes owed amount. If you don't owe and taxes, and have earned income, you may be able to claim up to $1600 through the Additional Child Tax Credit. If you have no income to claim on your tax return, then you will not qualify for claiming either the Child Tax Credit or a Additional Child Tax Credit.

If you enter your information into the software, it will tell you if your specific situation qualifies you for either tax credit.
