Employer is no longer in business and cannot provide W-2. Question on Form 4852

After reading a topic article on this site regarding the 4852, it suggests calling the IRS and they will send out a 4852 to me. Will the IRS provide the full EIN for the employer (now defunct)? I was able to pull the W-2 details from the tax transcript provided by IRS portal except for the EIN which is truncated. This has prevented me from filing online through FreeTaxUSA. Are there any ways to find the employer EIN? Am I best to just complete the 4852 that I already pulled from the IRS and mail in my return?

    Hi NurseNon!

Yes, the IRS will send you form 4852 with all the information including the EIN for the employer. Sometimes the EIN of a business can be looked up on the internet if you enter it in the search bar of your computer, however, this method isn't guaranteed. It is best to complete form 4852 that you have already pulled from the IRS and mail it in with your return.
