If that doesn't help, I would recommend looking at publication 501 ( https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf ), starting with page 11. There are certain requirements you need to meet before being able to claim someone as a dependent. If they lived with you for most of the year and you provided most of their support (like food and shelter), it is likely that you can claim them as a dependent.
