Customer for 3 or 4 years. I want to be able to type in "various" under the name of foreign country when entering foreign tax paid information from dividends. I haven't seen a way to do this. Is this something that will be considered in future editions of the software?

I'm also having this problem, is there a solution for it yet? I'm hesitant to just pick a random country, and I can't leave it blank if I want to claim the tax credit. I don't recall this being an issue on previous years' returns so I'm curious about what changed this year? Thanks for investigating

Last year they wrote "We appreciate your feedback and we will pass this on to our development team for consideration." Crickets since then. Kindly let me know if you have better luck with customer support in the future.

    Thank you for checking in

That message was written in December, four months ago. All of our major upgrades for the current 2024 have been implemented. The fix for this solution may come for the Tax Year 2025 which starts in January 2026. We are working to make our software better and more inclusive with each piece of feedback that we receive.

I see my error now - on the page where you specify the country, the first question "Is your foreign income passed through from a mutual fund or other regulated investment company (RIC)" defaults to "no," in which case you would not be able to enter "various" as the country.

In my tax situation, the foreign tax was from a mutual fund investment, so I should be answering this question "yes" - which removes the requirement to declare a specific country. I missed this question when I first went through my return, so I'm all set now. Thanks all

I am glad that worked out for you. Unfortunately for me I am not dealing with a mutual fund investment (RIC) but rather a K-1 from a trust. And where I am asked to enter which country I am receiving the dividends from I did not see a way to enter "Various" but was asked to choose a country. Hopefully FreeTaxUSA Agent Cory F will continue to keep this in mind (trust with various foreign investments) as the software is evaluated for Tax Year 2025.
