I have sold my residence.
When I file my federal taxes with free tax USA what documentation do I need to support the filling out of forms 849 and 523?

Hello! Thank you for contacting the FreeTaxUSA Community.
Are you referring to Form 8849? If so, this form is filed with your return as a Claim for Refund on Excise Taxes. Our software does not support Form 8849.
Form 523, is this in regards to selling your home? If so, the software will prepare the forms needed based on the information entered on the software. You will enter the sale under the Income tab>Sale of Main Home.
Please reply back if you have further questions or if this is not addressing the question you had.

Hello,
As the previous agent stated our software does not support the filing of Form 8849 Claim of Refund for Excise Taxes. However, it sounds like you need to file form 8949 Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets. We do support the filing of form 8949. Menu Path: Income tab>Sale of Main Home
Once you have entered your information the software will populate the forms needed for your tax return.

Sorry for the misstatement of the form. I was referring to 8849. It is my understanding because I received a 1099-S, I need to complete form 523 worksheet 2 to figure out my gain or loss and then enter that result on form 8949 as a long term gain or loss. Are you saying your software does not support form 8949?
