I am getting Social Security in January. I was wondering how much state and federal taxes are taken out? Thanks, Pam

No Federal taxes are taken out of your Social Security unless you request that it be done. State income taxes cannot be withheld from your Social Security. You can request to have Federal income taxes withheld from your Social Security on the SSA website. https://www.ssa.gov/manage-benefits/request-withhold-taxes But first you should determine whether this is something you need to do.

    Hi Pam,

We have a really informative article in the Community. See this article about Social Security being Taxed. That will help you know if you need to have any federal withholdings from your Social Security Benefits.
