Hello,
When did your spouse pass away? If you became a widow in 2024, due to the passing of a spouse, then you can still file a married filing joint return with your deceased spouse. However, if your spouse passed away in 2023 or a prior year, then yes you would file as Single. There is an exception.
Do you have any dependents. If you do, then you would file as a qualifying surviving spouse.
