My wife collected State disability for 3 months. They took tax out of her payments. Where do I report this income on the Federal Tax form 1040? What line does it go under?

Hi Waynenico,

State disability could be reported in two ways. First, on a Form W-2 as wages. If that is the case, report it on the Wages page and it will show on Line 1a. Second, it may be reported on a form 1099-G: Other Government Payments. In that case it could be reported on Unemployment Benefits (Form 1099-g) page and show on Line 7 of the Schedule 1 and Line 8 of the 1040.
