How do I report private insurance payments on my Minnesota state tax return?

Minnesota still allows a deduction for private insurance payments, but I’m not sure how to add this amount to my state filing. The tax software system doesn’t let me include it under Form 1098 since there’s no longer a federal deduction for this.

Does anyone know how to handle this?

    Hello,

Are you referring to long-term care insurance premiums paid? If so, those may be entered in the software by following this menu path:

    State > Nonrefundable Credits

Next, select yes to the "Long-Term Care Insurance Credit" question and click "Save and Continue". As you proceed in the software, you will come to a page titled "Tell us about your long-term care insurance". You may enter your insurance information here to include it as a nonrefundable credit on your MN return.
