Want to file Federal Jointly, but live in separate states? How do we file for this?

I have read numerous posts related to this question but none seem to really fit what I am looking for exactly.

We recently got married but my spouse lives and works in Virginia. I live and work in Maryland. I know it is possible to file our federal jointly, but how would we file our state taxes when we both live and work separately?
I see numerous posts about making 3 separate accounts, but this is a bit confusing.
