Reporting Jury Duty Income
Hello,
I'm reporting the income that I received from performing jury duty, but the only option from the drop down box is “Jury duty paid to your employer “. My employer did not receive payment for my jury duty, but if I try to bypass this selection, it won't allow me to put in the amount. Please advise.

Hello,
Follow these steps to report jury duty fees that were paid to you:
- Click Income TAB > Click Other Income in the list
- Click Yes on the item labeled "Jury Duty Fees"
- Enter your income in the line labeled "Enter any jury duty fees you received during 2024, including jury duty pay given to your employer:" Note: it includes all of the jury duty fees that were paid out.
- If there was any of the jury duty fees that were paid to your employer, you would follow the instructions below to report that amount as an adjustment to gross income:
- Click Deductions / Credits TAB > Click Miscellaneous Adjustments
- Enter the amount of money paid to your employer in the line for "Jury Duty and Other Adjustments" and choose "Jury duty pay given to your employer" in the dropdown box.

I'm in the same situation. My employer didn't take my jury duty $.
When I select the only option from the drop down menu, Jury duty pay given to your employer, my tax return amount owed to federal and state reduced. That doesn't seem correct since I actually earned that $35! Shouldn't this increase my annual income rather than reducing it?

Did you follow the instructions in steps 1, 2 and 3 and stop there? It sounds like you also completed step 4, which doesn't apply to you since you didn't give any of your fees to your employer.

Yes. That's what I have:
Jury Duty and Other Adjustments
Enter the amount and select the description of any other type of adjustment to your income: ($35 - I entered)
Your Other Adjustment Description: Jury Duty pay given to your employer (that's the only option for jury duty and it can't be left blank)My Federal Due changed from $2,203 to $2195 (also State), when I believe these should have increased.

You're in the ADJUSTMENTS section. You need to be in the OTHER INCOME section. Follow steps 1,2, and 3 and stop.
Step 1 says to start in the INCOME tab, then OTHER INCOME. That's the only place you're going to be entering jury duty pay.
ADJUSTMENTS are deductions. You would only enter something there if you're deducting it, for example when you repaid your employer. Since this doesn't apply to you, do not enter anything there.

Yes, I was. Thanks
