Part-Year Resident Question

Hi! I lived in one state for part of the year and moved to another state later in the year. When filing for state income taxes, it is saying that my Federal Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is the same as the state's taxable income. However, I did not earn all my income while living in that state. How do I change the state's taxable income to better reflect the income I made while I lived in that state? I appreciate your time and help in advance :)

    Great question!

When going through the 'State' tab, there will be a page that allows you to enter the amount of your federal income that was earned in that state, or while living in that state. The page is typically called the 'Nonresident Income' page or the 'Part-Year Resident Income' page.

It will list all of your federal income and give you the opportunity to enter the amount that is attributable to that state.

Note that all income earned while living in the state, and any income earned in the state while a nonresident are taxable by that state.
