return not including taxes paid to another state in credit

Hello,

I am trying to switch over to freetaxusa, previously I have always used turbotax, but something isn't right.

I have started my return, we live in wisconsin, I work in wisconsin and my wife works in minnesota.  We need to file a return for both states.

I first started the minnesota return, and then started wisconsin.  When I get to the summary for wisconsin it is not including the credit for the taxes paid to minnesota.  What am I missing?

You are correct that you should be claiming a credit for taxes paid to MN on your WI return. To claim the credit, you will need to manually make some entries into the software. First, you will want to make note of information contained on the Minnesota Tax Summary screen in the software. The menu path will be State > Minnesota and then State > State Tax Summary.

Next, you will want to select State > Wisconsin and then State > Credit for Taxes Paid to Another State. You can then select that you need to enter the credit and input the information requested. On your Wisconsin section, make sure you fill out the page for "Credit For Taxes Paid To Another State". Here is an article about the Credit For Taxes Paid to Another state, which explains that credit and how to utilize it.
