Cancel return

hello!
My wife and I both submitted a tax return but both messed up and decided to go in jointly on her return. What should I do with mine? I want to amend it but how do I do that without having to submit it again?
hopefully that makes sense since we submitted her return.
Thanks!!!

From reading here, since your filing status is changing, I think sending in something again with the amendment will help https://community.freetaxusa.com/kb/articles/113-how-do-i-correct-a-tax-return-mistake?utm_source=community-search&utm_medium=organic-search&utm_term=do+I+need+to+amend+my+return

If you have submitted an amendment from your wife's account where it shows that you are filing jointly, that is all you need to do. Nothing more needs to be sent regarding your originally filed return. The IRS will be able to match your SSN with the amended return.
You are welcome to log into your account and contact Support if you have additional questions, since it will be helpful for them to be able to view your return information when discussing your specific circumstances.

Thanks for the response! My wife and I actually submitted our own original tax returns on our own accounts, but then we amended hers and made it married jointly. I’m just wondering what to do with mine or who to contact since on my account was filed under married separately and don’t need it!

You don't need to do anything more with your account. You can leave it as-is.

thanks again for the response Keri! So your saying even though my information is on two tax returns on my wife’s for married jointly and the one I got accepted I don’t have to do anything with mine?

Hi Joshy1652,
That's correct. Nothing else for you to do.
The amended return to filed jointly for both you and your wife, now supersedes the previous return you file for yourself. You're good to go.

Okay! I just didn’t know since I got a return back and approved, we then used my information on my wife’s account as married jointly after she Amended hers, so I didn’t know what to do with mine since I couldnt amend it.

Just to be clear, Joshy1652, if you received a refund from an originally filed separate return, you'd want to include that as part of the amended return. That's called an overpayment and FreeTaxUSA software asks about the overpayment.
Did you include this information when you filed the amended return to claim the joint filing status?
If so, you should be fine. And whatever balance due there was on the amended return or additional refund would be taken into account.
If not, my recommendation is to wait for the IRS to process this amended return. They might catch the error of you not including the refund on the amended return and fix it, sending you a bill or reducing your refund. Allow 16 weeks at a minimum for processing the amended return.

no I didn’t include the payment I got on the separate return I did with my wife. I will wait to hear back from the irs then!
thanks!!!
