Dependent/amendment?

I accidentally claimed son as dependent. I didn't claim the child tax credit as it wasn't my year. I immediately did an amendment. Removed him as dependent and it didn't change the amount I would be getting. I got message saying accepted amendment or whatever, they'd start processing return and should receive original refund amount within 3 weeks. Today ex tried to file but when he called even with amended he has to do paper file. Would they process the original and amended at the same time? Had not been approved or processed when I did amendment. Or because he called will this automatically stop my tax return or flag it causing a delay? Again the difference on the amendment is 0 dollars. I just don't know if him calling flagged our child's SS number or something even though he told them i amended it (he has copy).

Although the IRS may have accepted your amended return removing your son as a dependent, it takes the IRS 8-12 weeks to fully process an amendment. Until your return is fully processed, the IRS will likely continue to reject your ex's return for your son already being claimed on another (your return). The most seamless option for your ex is for him to mail in his return this year, since the IRS won't reject a mailed return.
