Attach Form 7203 to E-Filed Federal Return

Can we actually attach PDF's to an e-filed federal return? Following the FAQ, it sounds like it's possible, but I don't see this option anywhere in the Final Steps screens.

If e-filing, can I send 7203 separately by mail? There's not an option for it on 8453.

    Hi thetaxes,

That FAQ is correct in saying that you can attach some documents to an e-filed return under the Final Steps tab. However, you will only have the option to attach very specific documents, based on the entries in your account (ex/stock summary statements). Form 7203 is not a document that you will be asked to attach to an e-filed return.

If you indicated that a basis computation was required for your S Corporation business, you'll typically get an alert in your account that says:

"The IRS would like Form 7203 showing the required basis computation attached to your return. If you mail your return, make sure to attach your basis computation to your return before mailing it in. If you e-file your return, make sure you keep your basis computation for your records in case the IRS asks you for it."

In other words, if you e-file, you don't need to send Form 7203 to the IRS. Instead, you'll just keep that form in your personal tax records.
