1099-G Married filing jointly.

We are filing jointly this year after filing separately last year and itemizing deductions. On the software after we add the 1099-G we have for Oregon its not clear to me when it asks about my previous tax return if they mean just MINE or MY WIFE AND I's. the wording seems sort of vague since it just says 'you' a lot. So do I combine numbers or not? I am assuming combine but again not sure.

Is the 1099-G for a state income tax refund (box 2) or for unemployment (box 1)? Did ou each get a 1099-G, or just one of you?
Assuming it's box 2, then you need to include some or all of that amount in income on your 2024 Federal tax return if either of you benefited from some or all of it by deducting state income tax as an itemized deduction on your 2023 FEDERAL tax return. Did you both deduct state income taxes when you itemized? If so, combine everything on the worksheet as if you'd filed jointly last year. If only one of you got a 1099-G and deducted sales taxes last year, then do it based on the information for the person who got the 1099-G.
The point is to arrive at a number that represents how much you benefited from by taking a deduction that was refunded to you. It gets complicated when you factor in that you might have reached the SALT cap and/or substituted sales taxes in lieu of state income taxes.

they dont send out 1099-g anymore it seems but yes its for refund we got. Neither of us deducted our income taxes from what we owed as far as I can tell from the forms. Used turbo tax last year. So far seems no matter how I slice it I dont owe anything on it, just dont want mister audit to come knocking cause I filled the form out wrong.
