Used Clean car credit

My husband and I both purchased an electric vehicle in 2024. We used our own SSN for each. We have not used the tax credit before and were advised as long as they were separate SSNs we could qualify for it. We transferred both to the dealerships so we got the instant credit off the purchase.
When we go to file, “married filing jointly”, it does not allow us to separate the names and SSN for each car. It just shows the primary filers SSN and both filers names on the form. Is there a way to override this and submit a separate form for each filer/ssn/vin? Or do we need to file separately for this?

Hello,
In our software, you do not need to enter your SSN and separate the names. The dealership should have sent information to the IRS for each specific vehicle and who bought them. Since you already enter your SSN at the beginning, the IRS has the information they need to verify your credit once you finish entering vehicles’ VINs and and purchase date in our software.
You will enter each car, one at a time. Then, the software will ask some follow up questions to make sure you are eligible, and you should then get the credit applied to your return.
