Have both 1095-C and 1095-A - how to handle when filing

hi folks- Doing my taxes myself for the very 1st time and decided to use FreeTaxUSA. I have a situation not sure I know how to handle. I have the following :

1095-C (Employer provided Health coverage)-Recipient:Me ; Covered:Me, Wife, son#2 (<26yrs old)

1095-A (Marketplace)-Recipient:Me; Covered:son#1(>26 yrs old)

Both sons not working/no income. I'm claiming them both as dependent in my tax return.

Should I say (Yes) when the application asked if I have Marketplace coverage (1095-A) ?

Thanks in advance

You have to answer 'yes' to that question in order to get to the screen where you will input the information on the 1095-A. Is son #1 filing a tax return? He will have to report the 1095-A as well and should file. You may need to do an allocation. See the instructions for Form 8962.

Nothing from the 1095-C goes on your tax return.

Thanks for the quick response. I did answer Yes on my 1st go-round with my return. I remember getting a screen asking about the amts in cols A,B,C if they are are all the same per month (for 12 months). Each month's entries (amts) are all the same. Cols C have all Zeroes. The current return I have going I answered No. So I need to go back to that step (whichever tab) and change it to Yes.

No, son#1 is not filing a 2024 tax return.

Also, I am at the final steps now where the application is asking about E-Filing. I'm concerned that I have not been asked to upload any of my supporting documents (W2s, 1099-div/int-misc, 1009-sa, 1095-A or C, Schedule 3 or B etc). Is this normal even if I'm at this final step ?

    Thanks

E-filing does not generally require "uploading" of documents. Schedules 3 and B are part of your tax return and are going to be submitted (you can check to make sure they're there before you submit). The IRS already has your W-2s, 1099s, and 1095s. You've input the information from them and the IRS will match them against their records.

Yes, I remember some formdocuments are furnished directly to the IRS. I'm not sure which exact documents are those other than W2s and 1099s. All 1099 docs are already provided to the IRS (1099-Div/Int/Misc and 1099-SA) ?

A follow-up question if I may regarding FreeTaxUsa application. When working on the return I was able to print/download a draft copy of the Federal return. I didn't get that option for the State though (NJ). Did I miss a step that show the option to print/download the draft return for State ?

Thanks again for your huge help….

    That is a good observation.

We do make the review of the State returns possible. It is part of the Final Steps menu and is one page before the submission of your Federal and State returns. You will see a page asking if you want to review your returns. You don't have to continue to submission if you have a need to change the state tax return input screens. You can click the State menu (tab), make the change, and progress back to the review page to progress to submit your 2024 tax returns.

    Hi CoryF.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I saw this option on the Final steps page. I only saw option to Efile for Fed (free) and State ($). Is it on this same screen that I can see/download the draft State return ? It was very clear for the Fed return portion, but not for State. I am e-fling for State anyway but wanted to download/review the draft return prior. Please advise

    Thank you for this reply,

The page is one before the Filing Method page. It will be labeled "Review your tax return". The top portion of the page will have the Federal return. The second half will be labeled Step 2 "View [state] Tax Return".

You are welcome to contact our Customer Support team by email within your FreeTaxUSA account Support Center, if you would like more direct assistance.

Thanks Cory. I think I did send an email query via my account a day or so ago. I don't have any response yet to that query. I might go that route for further questions / clarifications I may have.

    Hi Cory,

I re-did my 2024 tax return with some slight modifications to answers to some questions (mainly 1095-A/HSA portion). I did complete the entries for both Federal and State (NJ). I'm currently in the final steps asking about Efile (Federal and State) and tehn onto the payment page. I'm stopping here since I want my wife to do a cursory review of what I have entered.

Question: For my refund (federal) and tax due (state) I want both to be credited and debited respectively directly to my bank account. I haven't been asked about this information at this point. Will I be able to enter my bank information later, or did I miss a step somewhere asking for banking details.

    Please advice ASAP.

As a follow-up, I think I would need to have both 8879 and NJ-8879 forms for Efiling, correct ? I don't have either of these forms at this point of the process.

Thank you for these follow up questions

The Final steps of your tax preparation input ask about adding Direct Deposit banking information. You will be allowed to apply your refund or pay for taxes directly from that account entered.

FreeTaxUSA takes care of the E-Filing Forms. If available, the filed forms will be available for you to download and print to keep them with your 2024 filed tax returns.

Hi. I'm doing the final steps now and at the point where it's asking to review both Federal and State returns. The Federal returns looks to have al the needed forms for submission. However, the NJ State return is missing the (required/needed) Federal Schedule B if over $1,500 (as noted Line 16a).

    Please advise ASAP

Also, on the NJ State return, it shows direct debit value 4 - which means NO direct debit. However, it did ask how I want to handle the pymt due and I provided direct debit info (checking acct).
