How Do I enter a Qualified Charitable Distribution on FreeTaxUSA?
A previous thread indicated that if I were over 70-1/2, a screen would ask if I made any QCDs as I entered a 1099-R. I am not over 70-1/2, but my wife is. We made QCDs, yet I was not prompted to enter the information as I entered her 1099-R. Is it to be entered elsewhere? Or is this a bug? It has a material impact on taxes due.

QCDs have to be made from an IRA. The 'I' in IRA stands for "individual." The individual making the QCD has to be over 70 1/2. From whose IRA was the QCD made? If it wasn't from your wife's account, it's not eligible to be a QCD.

I figured it out….Box 7 on the 1099-R has a checkbox for the IRA/SEP that carries over to the FreeTaxUSA form. It was not immediately obvious to me that it was checked on her 1099-R. Checking it on the FreeTaxUSA form brought up the QCD question. Thanks for replies.
