Past Tuesday I sent my data (EFIN and PTIN to FreeTaxUSA, but I haven't received any answer yet about whether I can sign or not taxes as a tax preparer. Is the system charging me for this new update?

    Hi frankbericiato,

Our EFIN approval with the IRS is completely automated and happens within 3 business days. Make sure that you have entered your paid preparer information correctly and provide a tracking number as explained on the Paid Preparer page.

On a 2024 account, you will need to get your EFIN verified by the IRS for use with our software. You can do this as part of entering your information under the Misc menu > Paid Preparer section. You will be guided through the process. You can enter your tracking number and your SSN or EIN depending on how your EFIN was assigned (either to you or to a business) to verify with the IRS. Answer Yes on the EFIN Verification screen and click Save and Continue.

It currently is taking about 3 business days to process.

    To find your Tracking Number:
    1. Log in to the IRS e-services site using your credentials.
    2. On the Select Organization page, select the option next to your firm's name and click Submit.
    3. Click the Eye icon under the "View/Edit" column.
    4. The Tracking Number will be a 20 character number near the top of the page on the line just below your firm's name and EIN

Once you have been verified for use with our software, you won't have to do that again. But you will need to enter your paid preparer information on each account.

I recommend that you contact Support through your account. Add the title, "EFIN Verification" to your support issue.
