2023 return still not received

I have still not received my 2023 tax return. Looking at my transcript it says that x amount was credited but my refund still hasn't been approved or issued. My 2024 has been approved in just under 2 weeks! What do I have to do to get to the bottom of this?

@Weeks2x4, the IRS allows you to check the status of your 2023 return using the "Where's My Refund?" website. That would be your first place to start.

If your 2023 return was mailed in, do you know when it was mailed? The IRS currently shows that it is processing paper returns received in February 2025. However, if your return requires an error to be corrected or any other special handling, it may take longer for the IRS to process it. This longer handling period can apply to returns that have been e-filed, as well.

My 2024 return is already issued. My 2023 still says it's being reviewed. This is after verification of my identity in July. There have been no letters and no change to the transcript. I don't know what else to do but wait?

I recommend reaching out to the IRS directly to see if they can provide an update and/or additional information regarding the processing of your 2023 return. You can call them at 800-829-1040.

If that doesn't bring about a resolution, you may want to reach out to the Taxpayer Advocate Service to further assist you.
