Why do I enter my FreeTaxUSA username and password to get into Freetaxusa community?

FreetaxUSA prompted me to create a separate username and password to post on this community forum but in order to login I have to use my other username and password I created for filling out a tax return.

What good is having the other name and password and how did the two accounts get linked?

Starting on February 24th, 2025 we changed the Community login process to be the same username and password as your FreeTaxUSA account. I can understand the confusion for all of our existing Community members but we are hoping that it creates a simpler process going forward.

If you were using the same email address for both your FreeTaxUSA Community account and your FreeTaxUSA filing account, they were automatically linked, and you’re able to access your FreeTaxUSA Community account seamlessly using your FreeTaxUSA login information.

Does this mean the Password for Community is no longer used for anything?
