Unable to enter my tax return exactly for an amendment

I had my 2024 tax return done by a tax preparer. He made a mistake claiming my newborn could not be a qualifying dependent bc she was born in August of 2024. I need to file an amendment to claim my full earned income credit and child tax credits. I am trying to enter my 2024 tax return exactly as prepared but the Free Tax software will not allow me to make the same mistake as the preparer. I need my status to be head of household and list my dependent as a non-qualifying dependent. The tax alerts will not allow me past the screen to complete the return.

Hi kbsau,
I don't think the preparer made a mistake and perhaps no amendment needs to be made. A child can be born at the end of the tax year, and you can claim any credit you qualify for. You just need a SSN for the child. See this IRS FAQ on claiming a dependent. Pay attention to the answer for, "My daughter was born on December 31. May I claim her as a dependent and also claim the child tax credit?"
We don't have a way to report a non-qualifying dependent in our software.
